Mark Pummell

Called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in November 2023, Mark Pummell brings a rare combination of elite legal training, international entrepreneurial experience, and over a decade of proven teaching success to London Law Lectures.

Legal Education & Credentials

Mark undertook his postgraduate studies at The City Law School and the world-renowned Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London, where he specialised in International Corporate & Commercial Law. He holds an LLB (Hons) and a BSc (Hons), and is currently reading for an LLM in Maritime Law at The University of Law — a reflection of his commitment to remaining at the cutting edge of legal scholarship.

A Decade of Transformative Teaching

Mark has tutored law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for well over ten years. His students' results speak for themselves:

• Prepared a student for her successful PhD application to King's College London to read in Competition Law
• Tutored a student to Distinction in both her GDL and City Law School Bar Vocational Studies — she is due to commence her pupillage in October 2027
• Another student won the prize for the highest mark worldwide for her University of London LLB dissertation

These outcomes are not coincidences — they are the result of Mark's ability to identify each student's potential and push them toward results they did not believe were within reach.

An Extraordinary Life Beyond the Law

Mark's background is as remarkable as his legal career. Featured no fewer than 15 times in Juan Antonio Fernandez and Laurie Underwood's pioneering China Entrepreneur: Voices of Experience from 40 International Business Pioneers, he spent nearly two decades based in Shanghai, where he founded a diverse portfolio of businesses — many of which continue to operate today:

• ChinArt — a downtown Shanghai art gallery
• dbstudios — the first Western built and owned recording studio in Shanghai
• Sinapse — a psychotherapy services practice
• Medusa Coaching — executive coaching and leadership development
• Makarim Strategic Advisory — delivering neuroscience-based insights (neuro-governance) to C-suite leaders and giga-projects

This depth of real-world business and cross-cultural experience gives Mark a distinctive perspective that enriches his teaching of commercial and corporate law — he does not just know the rules, he has lived them across international markets.

Personal

Mark is the proud father of Charles Timothy (20) and Catherine Alexandra (13), and is very happily married to his wife Victoria, originally from Xi'an, China. Outside of law and business, he is a keen angler, an accomplished keyboard player, and a devoted follower of boxing and Formula 1.
