Evidence
What gets into court — and why. The rules that govern how facts are proved in civil and criminal proceedings.
About This Subject
Evidence law determines what a judge or jury sees, hears, and may legally consider. In criminal proceedings especially, the rules of evidence — on hearsay, character, confession, and privilege — can be the difference between conviction and acquittal.
This is one of the most practical subjects in the UoL LLB and one of the most testable. We teach it as a structured decision framework: start with relevance, move to admissibility, apply the applicable exclusionary rules, and then consider what weight the tribunal should attach. On exam day, you will see every issue — including the ones designed to trip you up.
What You'll Be Able To Do
- ✓ Determine the admissibility of any item of evidence step by step
- ✓ Apply the bad character gateways correctly to a prosecution fact pattern
- ✓ Spot exclusionary issues that will cost an unprepared candidate marks

Why University of London LLB Students Choose London Law Lectures
The UoL external LLB is one of the most respected law degrees in the world — and one of the most challenging to complete without structured support. You receive reading materials and a syllabus, but no lectures, no tutorials, and no professor to ask when you're stuck.
London Law Lectures fills that gap. We teach each subject class by class, the way a first-class student needs to learn it: systematically, precisely, and with a constant eye on what the University of London examiner actually rewards.
